DOH!  For whatever reason, I never saw this error here... then again, I use
IMP for authentication on my test setup (I should probably change that). 
Or, even more likely, I use mcrypt.  Crap.  I should have thought of that
earlier...

>From the sounds of it, this completely disables logins.  I guess I should
roll 2.2.3.
