[dev] Problem with filenfo & MIME/Magic.php

When I try to upload an image with ansel, I get the following errors:

Warning: finfo_file(): supplied argument is not a valid file_info resource in
/var/www/pear/Horde/MIME/Magic.php on line 180

/var/www/pear/Horde/MIME/Magic.php on line 181

This only happens when I use fileinfo.  If I disable that extension, everything
works fine.  I have the latest CVS, latest pear packages, PHP 4.3.6, Apache
2.0.49.  I do not know when this broke, it's been about 2 weeks since I've
worked with my horde installation.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
