That's indeed what eg a Belgian/Dutch Outlook does. No problems at all,
until I noticed my users started creating subfolders in their localised
INBOX (called 'Postvak IN'). Which should be impossible because I use
the UW-imap server with mbx mailboxes. The localized Outlook obviously
uses the localized mailboxname to communicate with the server. Very
confusing for those users, because now they seem to have one folder
that can hold messages and subfolders, while that is not possible in
any of the other folders.

So if/when you implement this, please be very carefull to do the
localization only in the display.

I'd rather just believe that it's done by little elves running around.
