The Purge Deleted link was appearing/disappearing seemingly randomly  
because it was checking to see if there were deleted messages on the  
current _page_ only - not in the whole mailbox. So I'd read a bunch of  
mail, deleting some, and get to the end of my mailbox, and if I hadn't  
deleted any messages on that last page, I'd have to find a page that  
_did_ have a deleted message on it in order to purge the mailbox.  
Yuck. At least I was able to tie it down to pages with deleted  
messages; my wife just noticed that it was utterly random.

I could be convinced that we should _disable_ the purge link if there  
are no deleted messages /in the whole mailbox/ - but elements  
appearing/disappearing isn't good UI either.

Also, imo, people confused by the purge link not doing anything should  
just use a virtual trash folder.
