Because that autoloader has to be configured to understand that  
"underscores = a new directory", for example. An autoloader that can  
handle this format is acceptable, but there is no requirement that an  
autoloader needs to do this.  So in lieu of somehow documenting this  
in the package.xml file, it's just easiest to require an autoloader  
package that already does this.
