Why don't you just try it out?

Like Jan, I doubt there will be many users which have up-to-date  
experience with these obsolete (v2) and ancient (v3) versions of Samba  
(even the last v3 was released 8 years ago). A couple of years ago it  
worked with v3 (I know from first hand experience), but since then I  
have switched to v4 so I don't know about the actual status.

It appears like you have a usecase for the older versions however, so  
your best bet would be to try for yourself.
