Finally! I am using postgres and logging was turned off by default. I can 
see this, and so now do I understand that I will have to enter the 
usermname/password by hand. AND it has to be MD5ed. I can figure out 
postgres but the MD5 part I am not sure what to do

This  is in the CVS Version of horde horde.prefs file. Since I am allready 
editing the prefs for horde and there appears to be no prefs file in this 
directory
this lead me to believe that you meant the individual directories, since 
there was a prefs.php.dist in each of these directories.

I should have said 'leads me to believe'
