I endorse the methodology of the patch, although I haven't reviewed it
in detail yet.  I no longer have an LDAP test environment handy, so
I'll have to rely on your (plural) endorsements in order to sanction a
commit.

If a couple of you can let me that these patches are working
correctly, I'll commit the code some time tomorrow.
