[horde] Tarballs versus SRPMS

Is there any difference, other than the obvious archive structure, 
between the "tarballs" and the SRPMS?  For example:

    pub/horde/tarballs/horde-2.0.tar.gz
versus
    pub/horde/rpms/SRPMS/rh7/horde-2.0-1.src.rpm

I would perfer to use the RPMs, but don't want to miss out on anything 
by so doing.
