Hi all
One of the 'vacation projects' we're working on is an IMAP proxy daemon.
The first version is ready for testing.
You can install the daemon somewhere between your imap client (that
would be the IMP webserver in our case) and the mailserver (we'll run
it on the mailservers). There it will intercept IMAP traffic on a
port you choose, cache the connect info, check for an existing
connection with the same credentials and link the client to
that connection. It will discard the IMP logout commands, and
keep the connection open.
The overhead of the many imap Authentications/Logouts on the
mailserver should disappear.
I'll make the source available on our ftp site later today,
and I'll make sure there is a minimum of documentation ready.
I'll also ask the programmer and the project manager to subscribe
to this list to answer any questions, since this is all way over
my head :-)
