What are you actually wanting to do?
With login do you mean you would like the time inserted in the motd.php?

I can't remember of the top of my head, but there is a php function that
lets you retrieve the date and time. do a search at www.php.net.

I have a java script I found on the net that does current time as well, let
me know and I'll send you the address.
