I started with standard Horde releases and have gone over to CVS (for
all modules) because of extra, wanted features.

CVS is CVS and you are bound to find things that don't work from time to
time. Whenever i update Horde, I also have to update modules such as
Imp, Kronolith and Turba, since classes and functions may change
interactively (is my experience, at least).

Also, from time to time you might find that SQL and LDAP details change
and you have to rebuild your database/directory. That's only to be
expected. Then you have to ask and give feedback on this list, as you're
doing here.
