[horde] session handler and token question

I've been trying to do some research on these two options.

I understand that PHP 4 has file based session handling capabilities.
Are there any advantages to using a mysql session handler?

What are the advantages of using mysql token table for horde?

Do these tables need to get cleaned out manually, or do they get managed
via the code?
