[horde] mysql horde database/concurrent installations

I have created the new database and can see the test.php page.  When I bring up the root page of horde, I get a log in screen but it will not let me log in.
I get the message 
"Login failed because your username or password was entered incorrectly."

The log file shows:
Mar 13 17:00:34 HORDE [error] [horde] FAILED LOGIN for eric [127.0.0.1] to Horde [on line 93 of "/horde/horde/login.php"]

In my horde/config/cong.php I am authenticating with
$conf['auth']['driver'] = 'imap';

I currently have no other packages installed other then horde and the framework.
Any ideas on what I can look for?  I was able to log in with imap authentication with version 2.2.3 if it matters.
