[horde] umlaut problem / php, mysql configuration

hi all,

I using the lates horde cvs co.
In most cases the everything works fine with umlauts.
They are displayed corretly, stored corretly in mysql.

But sometimes I get "?" instead of an ä  ( ae for all of you who can't 
display an umlaut ).
This happens in following cases for example:
*)	export out of kronolith or mnemo or tasks.
			( I guess in almost every module )
*)	display of reports in tickets ( graph.php )
*) 	and some more


Did anybody experience similar situations ?
Has anybody an idea why this could happen ?
