There are many variations on mysql based virtual domains, so without more
info we can't say how much trouble such a setup may be.  But generally it
either works, or can be made to work.

Yes, generally, the stable versions are stable.

The latest stable versions, unless you need a feature in the development
version not available in the stable version for some reason.
