A bit more info:
Under IE -
an application selected from the side bar will appear in the a new frame. 
Although the frame is half the width of the window and the sidebar fills the
other half.
Unde Mozilla -
an application selected from the side bar will appear in a new window.  The new
application is the width of the window and the sidebar in the original window
is also the width of the entire window.  The top menu bar appears with the
application in the new window but is not in the original side bar window.
