[horde] Newbie question

Sorry this is so long!
I'm using HP-UX 11i's HPWS Suite's Apache server (version 2.052 with PHP 4.3.8). I've gone through all of the instructions to enable PHP, and install the extra extensions needed (gettext, zlib), and I get only one little error in the Apache logs:
 [Thu Jun 23 13:13:30 2005] [error] [client 161.45.192.230] File does not exist: /var/spool/mqueue1/cyrusoft/errors 

I've had to install horde in this weird directory because my development machine doesn't have any room in /opt/hpws (where apache lives), and when I tried a link it complained. 
Now, when I run the test.php, it tells me non of the prereqs are installed:
 # Ctype Support: Yes
# DOM XML Support: No
# FTP Support: No
# GD Support: No
# Gettext Support: No
Horde will not run without gettext support. Compile PHP with --with-gettext before continuing. 

Has anybody installed Horde on top of straight HP distro? I've tried to look through this list (and HP's ITRC) to see, but I find no complaints--I guess most people build their own apache and PHP, but I don't have that option. Maybe my problem is just a path...
If anybody could help, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm trying to evaluate imap WebMail servers, but I cannot try IMP until I get horde installed!
