Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that ticket.

I downgraded to 4.0.3 and everything works fine now.  The suscribe  
pref still isn't working as expected, but I think that's because I've  
already saved my personal preference.  I suspect that after that's  
been done, IMP ignores the prefs.php default (unless locked).
