[horde] high load on server

Hi,

I have installed the latest horde packages ( horde 3.1.3 with IMP 4.1.3)
with apache 1.3.33, php-4.4.5 and mysql 5.0.22

my question is what would be the minimum hardware requirements for an
environment serving 20 000 users (around 500 connected simultaneously) ?

The actuall system runs on 2 servers (RedHat ES3):
- the first one with apache php and horde. (PIV Intel(R) Xeon(TM)  Dual CPU
2.80GHz with 2 GB RAM)
- The second with Mysql with the same hardware configuration.

On peek hours the system becomes unusable wigh a load average higher than
30.

I might be missing some tuning parameters,
MIME Magic Support (fileinfo) is not installed as well as PHP has no
memcached Support (memcache).

Does anyone have a link or guidance on how to get better performance with
horde ?
