[horde] redirect problem

Horde version horde-webmail-1.1-rc2
The only way I can make this install work is if the web server's
Document root is set for the directory /horde-webmail-1.1-rc2
or if I go directly to https://myserver/horde-webmail-1.1-rc2   I have
the conf.php entry set for /horde-webmail-1.1-rc2
I have tried a symlink and and alias  to  horde-webmail-1.1-rc2
The server will follow  symlinks.
No matter what it fails and it always ends up at https://myserver/login.php
I get no entry in /tmp/horde.log regardless of Debug level.
