Incubator apps like Merk require Horde HEAD and PHP 5.2+.

If that doesn't fix it for you, then make sure error_reporting is set  
to E_ALL in php.ini, make sure either display_errors or log_errors is  
turned on (and check the log if you use that option), and check your  
apache/httpd error log for segfaults.
