Wouldn't it be better to use a legal timestamp value?

Like

postgres=# select timestamp '0000-01-01 00:00:00';
       timestamp
- ------------------------
 0001-01-01 00:00:00 BC


(or any other legal value, like '1970-01-01 00:00:00')
