Ok, now it works. The setup interface has loaded without the sidebar and 
I was able to configure horde normally.

After defining a auth backend, the login screen started to load and then 
authenticating as certain user has made the sidebar and all the other 
buttons and icons to appear.

If I switch back to "Authenticate as certain user" -> "Administrator", 
then the "blank screen" starts to appear again.

Anyway, my problem is solved, but I'm not certain if is this the desired 
behaviour.
