[horde] Authentication not working

I just installed Horde (3.3.1, more version info below) on CentOS 5.6 
for testing - as successor of openwebmail. Compared to openwebmail 
(basically "yum install openwebmail), the installation is 10x more 
difficult. Though I am sure horde does much more than ow.

I checked this how-to (I found it only after configuration):

I got through the installation, however, and now my only problem is that 
I cannot get in. On my login page, 
https://my.ip.address/horde/imp/login.php I get

> Login failed because your username or password was entered incorrectly.

I try to login as a Linux/Unix user, and the un + pw are ok, for they 
work for ssh login. I guess Dovecot is supposed to handle the auth.

In horde/imp/config/servers.php I have

...even though the defaults seemed ok too.

I verified that port 993 answers:

In the httpd log there is nothing special.
