Here are the differences in one mail folder (actually a file) "before
and after Horde" - more exactly, after the folder has been read by horde:

[root at mail mail]# pwd
/home/lasso/greenspot/jussi/mail
[root at mail mail]# diff saved-drafts saved-drafts.backup
13,14d12
< X-IMAPbase: 1304362416 0000000002
< X-UID: 1
37d34
< X-UID: 2

That is a couple of new headers, not so bad? That folder only contains
two messages.

The size difference in what dovecot expects and what it sees
(10464/2748) seems to be too big to be caused by some new header lines.
It can be caused because the inbox in question may be different in age
from the /home directory contents - because I am copying things over
from an old to the new mailserver.

In this case it is not a horde issue.

Also it seems that dovecot recovers gracefully and creates another
"index log":
-rw------- 1 myname mygroup 748 May 2 21:51 dovecot.index.log
-rw------- 1 myname mygroup 2748 May 2 21:08 dovecot.index.log.2
