You would see entries in the sync log regarding the "Contacts" folder.

Yup, that's pretty much what I'd need to help you. I'd be surprised if  
it didn't work. I've used Android 2.3 on my Droid and it worked fine.  
Unless, of course Motorola is not using stock Android, which is quite  
possible.
