[horde] Horde webmail installation through pear

Hi list,

I have a problem that is driving me up the wall- I am trying to install horde/webmail on a machine with a freshly installed php-5.3.8. 

When I say pear install horde/webmail I get a lot of 'Did not download optional dependencies' and 'can optionally use package' information but not a single error. pear then starts downloading packages but it doesn't install a single one. How do I find out why it refuses to install the packages it downloaded ?
