Searching more on this seems that I  could be wrong here. According to
http://www.php.net/manual/en/openssl.cert.verification.php  it  can be
directory.

Nevetheless  I  don't believe this is used anywhere in Kronolith. It's
mainly for SMIME/PGP functions in IMP.
