[horde] Considerations: mysqli vs mysql/PDO in Horde

Hi,

provided both mysqli and mysql/PDO extensions are present in a horde
server, which extension should be preferred and why?

Are there performance considerations? So far, I have not yet cared
about that but I was asked and I could not give an answer.
