If you aren't participating in the code development, you won't be needing
all of the update history. I'm told that the size of a git repository can
be reduced by checking it out with "git clone --depth 0 <repo>", which
keeps the update history at a minimum. Consult the git command-line options
for details; I may not have remembered the syntax correctly.
