Altering the PHP file won't hurt. I assume that the next version that  
is released will have this reverted, so for now your options are  
either sticking to Horde_ActiveSync-2.12.4 (the last version that  
works for older clients) or upgrade to the latest version and edit  
ActiveSync.php.

The only reason for me to release a fixed version ASAP would be that  
it will prevent people from breaking their installations by running  
'pear upgrade' without following the mailinglists.
