Is it possible you are using PHP 5.6?

In PHP 5.6 the STREAM_CLIENT_CONNECT default is different from previous 
versions and prevented a connection to imp unless we turned off tls to 
our IMAP server or made a code change suggested by Michael M Slusarz on 
6/13/2014 (about a month ago).
