logout on any activity

i can login to imp fine and it shows my new messages  but whenever i click
on anything after that, to read a message or compose or anything, i get
logged out

i'm running php4 on debian potato w/apache-ssl server

php and apache are debs  but i installed horde and imp from scratch not
packaged
