Problems d/l attachments in IE 5.0

Hey All,
  I was wondering if anyone had seen this before? When going to download an 
attachment in Internet Explorer if I first choose to "Save to disk" it tries to 
save as an HTML doc even though the attachment is listed as:
application/vnd.ms-excel (or some other app). If I choose to "Open from current 
location" first then the app is recognized properly as Excel and it will prompt 
me to save it to disk.
  Is this a misconfiguration in my webserver? or perhaps something in IMP? or 
is it just IE5.0? I'm using IMP2.2.3 (rpms).
