[imp] Can't get past the login screen

When I visit the imp login screen I get the following cookie:

chuckmIMPlang
en
www.mydomain.net
0

29471332
1046670528

also in /tmp I have:

mydomain:/tmp# cat sess_4072dd4bd227feffdcc7a2a78c9a5c39
mydomain:/tmp#

When I attempt to login I get the following in the imp.log (this is a
straight copy)

Feb 10 12:55:49 IMP [info] x.x.x.x login
Feb 10 12:58:21 IMP [info] x.x.x.x failed

session now looks like:

mydomain:/tmp# cat sess_4072dd4bd227feffdcc7a2a78c9a5c39
mydomain:/tmp#

cookie looks like this:

chuckmIMPlang

29471332
2566860528

Now there is no apparent attempt to connect to the mail server. Reviewing
the logs there is no POP or imap connectivity.

I think something is dying even before it gets to that point.
If I try to access a different server that hold a valid POP and IMAP
account, the behavior is the same.

I have rebuilt just about everything - PHP, apache, imap etc and just can't
seem to get it to go.

All looks innocuous... So, if you clear out all existing sessions, and go
directly to IMP, do you get a session file (and a cookie)?

Forgive me if I've asked before, but do you show any login attempts in your
imap
server?
