Well, yes, but Horde/IMP are in PHP, of course.  So:

Agreed.  It turns out that our own amazing Chuck Hagenbuch has already
written a PHP <-> SMTP class, it's in PEAR, and IMP 2.3.x can use it.
:-)  So this will be an option as of the next IMP release.
