message count in newly created folder

Hi,

How do I configure IMP to check a newly created folder for mail.  Currently, I create a folder, then I have to select that folder in the folder navigator screen, and select 'Check Folder for Mail' option to have that folder a message count and unread message count.  I'm using IMP 2.3 and the IMAP server I'm connecting to is Courier-IMAP.
