multilanguage support

Hello,

My box: Slackware 7.1, Apache 1.3.19, php4.0 with
gettext support.

I have de.po file in imp/po directory. 
After "make install" i got 
imp/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/imp.mo file.
I modified imp/config/conf.php to use de as the
default language. de exists in /horde/config/lang.php
file. 

It DIDN'T worked. 

I checked the debugging section in README file. 

$ strings /bin/tar | grep Memory
Memory exhausted
$ (LANG=de; gettext tar "Memory exhausted" )
Memory exhausted

I got "Memory exhausted" in German by doing this:
$(export LC_ALL=de; gettext tar "Memory exhausted")
Kein Speicher mehr

I also tried langtext.php method mentioned in the
readme file. I didn't get any error or warning
messages
but, i got the output in English. 

In conclusion i couldn'n manage imp to work in Deutch.

Any help welcome.
