No. There isn't any terribly good way we can deal with local addresses.

Well, do you have an extra space after your address (domain name, 
specifically), in preferences or a conf file or anywhere? We might need a trim
() somewhere, but it'd be nice to know the source of this...

There's not really much to go on here... Most likely PHP is screwed up somehow, 
but I can't really say more without more details/consistency/reproducibility.
