FW: Performance tuning + RAM requirements

Hi all, howzit going ?

I'm running IMP at the end of a 128K line on a P3 750 with 128Megs of RAM.
I have on average 200 simultaneous connections accessing their webmail, at
times I have noticed that the responsiveness of IMP slows down badly.
I have tried loading a caching DNS with Bind which definitely seems to have
improved some items speed, however I still have a major problem with things
just taking to long for my users.
Is there any options that I can use for Apache, MySQL, Sendmail or IMAP that
will increase the responsivness of IMP ? All I have is basically the default
install config for Apache etc. So maybe there is some "tweaking" I can do of
the config files ?
It's also noticed that CPU usage sits pretty high most of the time, 30-60%
Idle. One thing that concerned me is that the system was using 50Megs of
it's swap drive, so I think that adding more RAM should help ?

Anyways any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. ;-)

If you are using IMP-2.2.x, then you can try the APC, it increases the speed of
IMP at least 2-3 fold.

http://apc.communityconnect.com

(Unfortunately there are problems with APC and IMP-2.3.7-cvs)

Which no one has described to me well enough that I think they're really
problems with IMP... sounds like APC just doesn't handle some php4 features
correctly, for whatever reason.

Confirmed; I have no idea why, but I'll look into it when I have a chance.
Please followup on the turba list.

I also think, that the problem lies at the APC site.
What i found is, that the apc crashes when including "Browser.php". I could
solve it by changing

$this->setFeature('javascript', x.x);
 to
$this->setFeature('javascript', 'x.x');

But there are also other files where apc gives up. So I had to exclude
"/horde/imp/templates/compose/*" from caching.

So it doesn't handle floats? Strange...
