LDAP and add contacts in IMP 2.2.4

Hi,

      we have a peculiar common name ("cn") organization in our LDAP 
server, that is,
the form is: "last name, first name" as in "Marchand, Robert".  This 
somewhat breaks
IMP when putting directly in the address.  So I did a little hacking to 
have the proper
syntax in the fullname and address from LDAP results.  But when I add 
contacts from the LDAP server, I have things like these:

Address: robert.marchand@umontreal.ca
Nickname: robert.marchand
Fullname: Robert Marchand

And in the address, I get this:
"robert.marchand" <robert.marchand@umontreal.ca>

I would prefer:
Robert Marchand <robert.marchand@umontreal.ca>

What is the difference between 'nickname' and 'fullname' (my english is not 
that good :-( )?
And how could I change the "addcontact" stuff to have what I want?

I'm using IMP 2.2.4 (2.2.5 in not so long).
