Unexpected save of preferences

Solaris 2.7
php-4.0.5
imp-2.3.7
apache-1.3.19
imap-2000c

Finally got imap/ssl working. I then logged in via imap/ssl/novalidate-cert.
Next time I logged in (after logging out and closing up all the browsers)
I connected back in via imaps even though I had imap/143 select on my
login screen. I then commented out imaps in both inetd.conf and /etc/services
on my server machine and could not log in since no matter what I did it insisted
on trying to log in via port 993 and imaps.

Finally I checked horde_prefs and saw that mailprotocol and mailport were
saved even though I never saved them via options. I deleted the rows and
was able to log in via imap/143. Just to confirm I then checked horde_prefs
and nothing had changed. Enabled imaps and then logged in using imap/ssl
and checked horde_prefs and once again mailport and mailprotocol had been saved.
Should this be happening? Was this the discussion last week re: prefs? Anyway
to avoid this issue?
