Sorry, I totally misread the email.

I think some cases of this have been covered in the past.  For example, I think
an email with no body text will always stay marked unread, even when "read"
and that this is correct (or at least standard) practice.  I'm sure someone
else can comment about this in a more exact manner.  Not sure if your cases
fall into these categories or not.
