Can you maybe try a c-client that isn't a beta snapshot? It really looks like 
things are fine until after we leave php-land in that backtrace. Otherwise, 
you'll need to debug the c code yourself, or give someone access to an account 
that produces the problem.

Filing a bug report, with that backtrace, on bugs.php.net is probably a good 
start, too.
