Strangeness in 2.2.5, more clues

As I have described several times - to no avail, it seems - I am
experiencing difficulties getting 2.2.5 working properly on a
slave server we're setting up. The set-up is as follows:

Apache 1.3.20
PHP 4.06
IMP 2.2.5
MySQL 3.23.38
Qmail

This is running on the slave machine.

Courier-IMAP is running on the master machine, which is where IMP
is accessing the mailboxes. The imp/horde database is located on
the slave server.

I can log-in, I can read mail, I can move/copy mail to different
folders, and I can delete mail.

I cannot send messages (including replies), nor save messages in
the "drafts" folder.

On friday, we finally made a "break".. in COMPOSE.INC, if I change
the method of the form from "POST" to "GET", everything works.

What I don't understand is _why_

I don't mind using GET over POST in this case, but I don't want to
do it without understanding why POST doesn't work.

Obviously, nobody else has run into this problem considering the
zero-rate reponse I've had to my various posts on this issue.
