still with mail spool vs mbox dilemma

Actually, I don't want to get rid of mbox. All I want is to find a way to
provide folder access (like for sent-mail and drafts files) to my users while
they still can download their messages through a normal mail client.
By the way, I am using IMP 2.2.6

No... it's your IMAP server that has to look at /var/mail. Sounds like you want
to get rid of the mbox driver in your copy of uw-imapd.
