[imp] login problem

1) is it important to have these extension in my php.ini file?
in imp/docs/INSTALL, it says that i have to do that if i want to have an
extension loaded automaticaly
i have installed IMAP (in my test.php3 says IMAP support: yes) but the
deamon isn't running and i don't know how to do this
2) even if i attempt to log as an another use, the access is always refused
for the same reasons
what can i do?
