LDAP mystery

I have an LDAP mystery: there is apparently no LDAP
server running on my machine, and yet the IMP contact
list *does* store new email addresses for me.  Where
is it keeping them?

The reason I care is that I want to find the address
database and write a script to keep it synchronized
with the address database on my Handspring PDA device.

Thanks to any who can reveal this mystery to me...

P.S. And if anyone knows of scripts for synchronizing
a PalmOS device with the IMP's LDAP data, I'd
appreciate knowing.  Thx!
