Compose and Preferences errors with Redhat 7.1 and IMP 2.2.5/2.2.6.

Wow. In summary, George Sexton rocks.

Setting the port# after the 2.2.6 setup script runs in 
$IMPHOME/config/default.php3, and upgrading php and its modules to 
4.0.5.2 and installing libxml2-2.3.8-3 took care of the problem. See 
below for the location to download the newer version of php and libxml2.
